Today I went to Jordan Wine Estate to taste their wine for a second time as I am a fan of their wine. The tasting was pleasant, informative, they have a great range of wine, great quality
wines, and it is a nice place.
Today I went to Jordan for another wine tasting and to buy
some wine. I had a different person serving me this time, his name was Eron, and the tasting was very well done. Eron
has studied wine making and helped out in the cellar at Jordan, I
therefore received a very informative tasting.
A tasting
is R25 per person and you get to taste 6 wines. This is refundable if you purchase
wine.
I had a very nice wine tasting here this time and therefore highly recommend visiting this estate when you come to Cape Town. Their wines are great and the estate is very nice. Their
restaurant is in the top 10 in SA and has a great reputation. You do
need to book in advance to get a table so if you are visiting from
overseas, book before you get on your flight!!
Notes on the wine I tasted:
Chameleon Rose 2012 (R52.50 a bottle) had three hours skin contact. It was light, fruity and pleasant. Sauvignon Blanc 2012 (R81.50 a bottle) was very soft on the nose with pleasant light fruity aromas. It was very fruity on the palate with intense flavours, it was very refreshing.
The Outlier Sauvignon Blanc 2010 (R97.50 a bottle) had a beautiful creamy nose and creamy feel on the palate. It was soft, pleasant, easy drinking and had slight tropical fruity flavours. It was matured in American Oak for 9 months, 60% was in new oak barrels and 40% 2nd and 3rd fill.
Unoaked Chardonnay 2012 (R82.50 a bottle) I didn’t like.
Chardonnay (barrel fermented) 2012 (R112 a bottle). It had nice fruity acidity on the palate, light fruits like apple and citrus, light creaminess, was smooth yet had citrus tones. 9 months, 60% new oak and 40% 2nd and 3rd fill. I liked it!!
Chenin Blanc (barrel fermented) 2012 (R81.50 a bottle) was
light, fruity and pleasant. From the oldest vineyards on the estate which is 30
years old. 50% of this wine was in 2nd and 3rd fill
barrels and the other 50% was in stainless steel tanks.
Riesling 2012 (R84 a bottle). This is an awesome Riesling!!
Lemon tones, fruity, soft, off dry. Has a creamy honey smell. Refreshing finish
of lime.
Merlot 2010 (R116 a bottle) has a beautiful fruity/dark
berry nose, it is gorgeous. Pleasant on the palate. Light, soft, little dry,
good tannin structure. 18 months 60% new oak and 40% 2nd and 3rd
fill.
Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 (R116 a bottle) has a very
interesting nose. It is a little spicy on the nose and palate. Awesome nose and
taste!! Not dry, a lot of flavour, fantastic. Wow!!
Cobblers Hill 2009 (R250 a bottle) is very nice!! Mocha nose
and taste. Fruity and a bit spicy. Smooth, good body. Full of flavour. Good
aging potential.
This is a very nice wine estate to visit, I do recommend visiting. Recently Jordan opened a deli/bakery so if you can’t get a seat
at the award-winning restaurant, then perhaps try out their bakery.
